About Course

What you’ll learn:

What should I do if clients are not paying attention or talking over each other?

If you have discovered that the clients are not paying attention because they are either chatting or arguing with one another, you should interrupt and demand (as politely as possible) their attention. If clients should be talking over one another, quickly mute their microphones and announce that you will call on them in turns. Allow one person their microphone access at a time.

What should I do when clients are speaking Chinese in class?

Please remind them that we would like to provide an all-English environment in the session and do not forget to encourage your clients to try their best to speak in English. Also, it is often the case that clients will speak Chinese when they become frustrated or confused. Please try to slow down your speaking speed and provide one word or sentence for them to focus on at a time. Don’t forget to provide visual aids on the whiteboard as you speak.

What should I do when clients are late?

If clients are late, please assist them in participation in the class as much as possible for the remainder of the lesson. If a client is late for a one on one session, try to condense the lesson for the client as much as possible or teach just the main points of the lesson.

Student is not participating/listening/responding/paying attention/interested in the lesson. Or student is playing with his/her favorite toy. What can you do to get the student to participate?

We apologize for this situation.
Try engaging students by:
1. Calling their names in different voices (ex. baby voice, robot voice, cartoon character’s voice, etc.)
2. Making some new noise, better topic related (ex. suddenly break out in a dance, singing or sound of instruments, clap, etc.)
3. Using physical movements (ex. high five, wave, etc.)
4. Using props (ex. bell, whistle, or relevant props)
5. Offering star reward with your participation requests
Book and attend the live training session Consultant Training Session: Teaching Games/Star Rewards/Classroom Management/Unexpected Situation with Kids.

When students are absent, what would you do?

Wait for the student as you do in a normal session. Make sure that whenever the student comes you can give your best. Please attend the video training Empty Room Policy.

It won’t affect your payment if you get a no-show student.

Student is eating.

We apologize for this situation. Tell the student politely “Class rule number one is no eating.” Ask student to repeat reading words when the student is eating.

Student/Mom/Dad is speaking Chinese.

We apologize for this situation. First, calm down. Parents sometimes try to help low-level students to understand English through Chinese. Second, you may suggest the parent to watch the video and correct errors after the session. You could also remind the parents that the goal of students is to study independently!
