Useful Skills for Bilingual Teacher（Adult Session）- “Am I allowed to speak Chinese?”
“Am I allowed to speak Chinese?” “How do I use Chinese in my classroom?” In our previous bilingual mode, we would leave the students’ native language behind completely and fully embrace the target language. However, we received some feedback from our students that they have encountered difficulty on comprehension of learning tasks, curriculum guide and other materials. In order to narrow the distance between the teaching content and the learner, we would now strongly recommend our bilingual teachers to use some Chinese instructions (20%-30%) in their classes (for all course types). Reminder: Chinese instructions should be considered as learning tools for students. Make sure your students have as much exposure as possible to the target language. Let’s see how Teacher Rebekah uses Chinese instructions to facilitate her teaching: 1. Prepare key words in Chinese 2. Use error correction & extra instructions on difficult vocabulary
